Meet the Founder: Grace Scamurra
I am an educator, mentor, and writer with 15+ years of experience supporting youth in education and wellness programs. I draw on these past experiences, as well as my history as a grant reviewer and grant-making educator, to provide solution-driven consulting for nonprofits in the education and wellness space.
With a Master's degree in English Education, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, I bring a unique set of skills to the realm of funding development and grant writing. My background in journalism has honed my ability to research thoroughly, communicate effectively, and distill complex information into clear and compelling narratives—a crucial skill in crafting successful grant proposals.
My years of experience as a K-12 English Language Arts teacher has provided a nuanced understanding of language, literacy, and educational needs. This background enables me to articulate the impact of proposed projects with clarity, as I demonstrate a deep awareness of the educational landscape.
I also served as a classroom facilitator for the Community 101 program, a year-long curriculum designed to educate and engage youth in the process of grantmaking, in partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation. Under my guidance, students conducted needs assessments, created a mission statement, researched local nonprofits, invited agencies to apply for funding, conducted site visits, and reviewed and awarded grants at the end of each year.
Witnessing my students’ empowerment through grant-making inspired me to open a nonprofit consultancy so I can put my multifaceted skill set to use while continuing to support mission-driven organizations in a larger capacity. My goal is to increase funding potential, solidify grant strategies, and prevent passionate educators and nonprofit workers (like you!) from burning out, so you can focus on what you do best: changing lives.
